University of North Dakota student, Megan Reister, planned to study in Norway for one semester at the American College of Norway. She quickly learned that one semester wasn’t enough.

The American College of Norway has organized a travel course to Svalbard the past two years and this year was no exception. With great interest and tremendous success the past two trips, another Arctic expedition was planned! This year, 16 students spent an unforgettable week exploring Norway’s northernmost territory with Dr. John Ross. After a hectic week of gathering prizes, making groups and planning activities, one of the best weeks of the year has passed; the American College of Norway’s annual Welcome Week! We were thrilled to welcome students from all over Norway, the United States and the world to ACN!

Every summer we welcome students to the American College of Norway to take part in a four-week summer session and this summer was no exception. This summer we had students participate in the program from the University of North Dakota, Mayville State University, West Chester University, Adelphi University and Norwegian students from ACN. The students took courses focused on environmental challenges as well as studying everything from the Vikings to modern art in a class focused on Oslo, West Chester student, Lexy Zimmerman opens up about her time abroad at ACN this summer. ACN student and travel course participant, Song, reflects back on his art journey to London. This past Easter break, the American College of Norway ventured to London for an arts travel course led by visiting faculty, Dr. Tami Carmichael from the University of North Dakota. On their tour of London, the students took in art of various forms around every corner of London. Thank you, Dr. Carmichael for leading such a successful travel course filled with tons of art, lots of laughs and new friendships! Where should we have faculty led travel courses next school year?!
